About

Experience close to the code.

Softemy is a specialist software engineering practice based in Slovakia. Its expertise is grounded in Boris Pilka’s work across Linux systems, telecommunications, cloud infrastructure and air traffic management.

Architecture and implementation belong together.

Boris’s engineering experience spans roles since 2010: production software development, SDN and protocol work, cloud operations, distributed orchestration, and architecture and security responsibilities in air traffic management.

He has led engineering teams, redesigned performance-critical software and guided research from proof of concept to successful flight trials. His work has included SESAR aviation research and Bundle Protocol v7 interoperability demonstrations at IETF hackathons.

The common thread is practical: understand the constraints, make the architecture explicit, and validate the result.

How an engagement can work.

Review a difficult system.

Examine the architecture, failure modes or performance bottlenecks. Agree on the findings, priorities and next steps.

Add senior engineering capacity.

Bring focused architecture and implementation expertise into an existing project, working with its team and delivery process.

Develop a defined solution.

Take an agreed problem through design, implementation and validation, with scope and acceptance criteria established at the start.

Working principles.

Measure before changing.

Establish a baseline and a target so improvements can be demonstrated.

Design for recovery.

Make failure behaviour, security and operational visibility part of the architecture.

Leave the system understandable.

Explain the decisions and tradeoffs so the result can be maintained and extended.

Let’s examine the problem together.
